2023 - animalia

We’re so excited to return to the playa once again!!

For this year’s theme we will have, among us, members of the conclaves Pyrokitten and Firemingos. Some of our campmates are working on an art project called Be Here Meow.

There’s a full moon on Wednesday, and we will be hosting a pod of the Moontribe crew. A pod of the Hawaii Fire Artists will be returning, and some members of Ember Arts Conclave from Australia will be joining us too!

Other than that, we’re going to be larger than ever before and are leveling up organizationally by necessity. There will be 4 performances during the week instead of 2, even better DJ lineups for our Tue-Wed-Thu-Fri firejams, and our usual movement arts workshops from Monday through Friday.

2022 - WAKING DREAMS

Ohhhh it was a really hot year and a lot of us were rusty from having a couple of years off but we handled it! It wasn’t very dusty, but it got dusty just in time for our camp photo. Fits the theme for the year though right? We had 104 campmates, were home to members of four conclaves including The Firemingos and Hawaii Fire Artists, who performed, and our music lineup for our jams was taken up a notch or two, as far as music that’s perfect for fire spinning goes.

2020 - the multiverse

Camp Kinetic participated in the Multiverse as a part of the Sparkleverse and The Infinite Playa, offering live and recorded workshops, as well as a few recorded performances, both in traditional video formats as well as one in VR.

2019 MetamorphoseS - Pre Burn

Since this is the first year of Camp Kinetic, its history will be mostly about me, and my camp experiences. I’ve worked in film production, finance, management, and martial arts instruction. I’m passionate about fire & flow arts, music, and building community.

I've been to fifteen burns and have camped with different theme camps in places all over the city. I’ve also done a bit of traveling and have been to a few regional burns, including Burning Seed in Australia. I was the central organizer of a camp called Wrongtown from 2010-2018, where I handled the majority of the communications, finances, creative direction, and content. I was largely responsible for its growth between 2014-2018, when it gradually transformed from a renegade sound camp of 25 burners into an officially placed sound camp on 2:00 with 137 campmates.

I was so proud of our camp! We had campmates from a dozen countries, hosted members of five different fire conclaves, and had a full DJ lineup with several big fire jams during the week.. as well having daily Wheelchair Jousting.. and being a place to fill up on coffee and electrolytes.. Yeah.. We had a lot going on..

Wrongtown will be on the playa once again this year. It will continue to be a refuge for international burners. It will be rolling itself back a number of years, eliminating both flow arts and the DJ lineup in order to become more manageable.

This will be Camp Kinetic's first burn. I'm excited to take everything I've learned and start with a blank slate. I hope to create a space where all Ten Principles are equally observed and where a community of people who are passionate about movement arts, music, and fire can thrive!

There are people on board who I admire and respect who are working hard to make it all happen. Some of them are campmates from 2018 and previous years. Many are seasoned burners. The hard cap for 2019 is half the size of WT2018. The goal is to be cohesive and to stay focused on our theme. I'm so grateful that there are people who share the same vision. Together we look forward to creating what will be a metamorphosis of creative elements from one camp into a new experience at Black Rock City.

See you on the playa!

Andy
