camp TASK

We ask for every individual to help the camp with just one camp task during the week (such as going on an ice run, cleaning the kitchen, etc) and one personal gift to the community through camp (such as teaching a workshop, helping with the fire jam).

We will be organized into several sections of ~16 campers. Each section, or pod, will be in charge of the camp for one designated day during the week. What this means for most people is that their one task will simply fall on that day. Within every pod there will be an organizer, or lead, whose responsibility is to coordinate. The pod lead may also greet people who visit our camp, as well as be on point to handle things that come up.

Camp Gift

Your personal gift to camp can be just about anything. What the camp needs the most right now is teachers for workshops, but we certainly could use other things, such as decorations, an art installation, or constructing something useful, such as building a shower stall, procuring an area rug for the flow space.. There will also be a wish list posted in the group as the burn gets closer.

Finally, this should go without saying, but everyone is responsible for their own footprint. There will be a crew to set up structures for camp-wide use, such as the central shade, kitchen, and shower. There will also be a LNT crew after the week is over. But everyone in every pod is responsible for setting up and tearing down their own section - tents, canopy, and everything underneath their canopy - as well as doing a MOOP sweep of their camping section before leaving the site.

CAMP DUES

Camp Dues for 2024 are $300. It will cover the camp’s overhead, all of its infrastructure, landmark features, and amenities including shade for tent camping, as well as operational expenses for the year such as storage and transportation. There will be a communal kitchen and showers, but BYO food & water. We may need a fundraiser and/or donations to cover any additional expenses.

You are exempt or will have reduced dues if you do a little more for the camp and/or city by doing at least one of the following:

1 - Will be in charge of running the camp for one day as a camp lead. This will also involve some pre-burn preparation time.

2 - Work on the crew. Build the main structures or play a logistics or supporting role during setup as part of the build crew, on Wed/Thu before the gates open. Builders will also help tear down the main structures on Monday after the event is over. There is a limited number of spots for this. More details can be found in the fb group

3 - Are a Ranger or Medic working for Black Rock City this year.

LEAVE NO TRACE

4 - We take Leaving No Trace very seriously! If you stay a little longer for full LNT duty, until as late as Tuesday 2pm after the burn to help with loading and do the final MOOP sweep, you'll get your dues back within a week after we get back on the grid. We’ll need ~15 people for this. If you do both Build and LNT, or LNT while also fulfilling some other major responsibility, you’ll be prioritized in the future.

Camp dues can potentially be $0 if you’re willing and able to put in more work towards the camp and Black Rock City.

Please contact us if any of these things interest you.
